Bulletin Boards - Thread: Whats with people and their infatuation with minecraft?
I've played it for days by my self on my PC, and a lot on the Xbox Live version with friends.
I build the a house, and dig up a mine and find lot's of Diamond and Iron and Gold and after that it's really boring.
I don't find it hard to stay alive on any difficulty so there is no real challenge for me. I just can't get into it, and I'm not the kind of person that sticks to one genre of game, I generally play everything.
Maybe it's different for people that play online on the PC because there is so many mods, and a lot more people to play with. Other than that I can't understand why people like it so much. I feel like it's extremely overrated and there are much better indie games out that that deserve much more attention. That's my opinion though.
It's because of the sheer amount of freedom it has.
You can do anything from fight armies of zombies to build an entire city with little more your bare hands, your imagination, and the inevitable army of Creepers that will come to undo all your efforts and leave you crying in the dirt like an emo school girl with bipolar disorder.
If that's not your thing, then you'll likely see this game as a craptastic
pile of crap on a crap sandwich. Otherwise, this game can be seen as a valid substitute for reality.
I never said i did play it. Im just wondering why the hell everybody is so infatuated with this game.
It. Sucks.
At this point, to enjoy the game, you have to only see the good in it.
When i look at a game, i look at the good and the bad.
Minecraft.
I thought the new update would be good.
It sucked.
More things i diddnt like than i did like.
WoW:MoP
I thought the new expansion would be horrible.
Its almost as good as wrath now that im playing it.
Almost.
Dude. It's an opinion.
If you aren't gonna go anywhere besides 'it sucks and anyone who likes it is wrong' then why are you still talking? We heard you the first time.
I love watching everyone defend their beloved minecrap.
You know what? I think I speak for all of us when I say, 'Until you actually EXPLAIN what's so wrong with it that you're incapable of just dealing with it, you are being labelled as a blatant troll.'
Besides the fact that you very clearly said you've never played it, you refuse to explain yourself.
I could understand why people like it, but I don't understand why its so popular. I've never played it. It looks like it could be fun at first, but then it would get to a point where its just boring.
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives.
Well, I can list reasons minecraft is enjoyable to me, some people may also like minecraft for these same reasons.
- It's a large expansive world that you can basically alter from the ground up.
- With friends you can just have fun where you either cooperate or compete for resources. I'm not a huge fan of PvP in minecraft so I prefer just competeing to see who made a better fortress.
- Mods add new things that keep the game going. Though it still gets boring if you are playing alone, with that the only good servers are servers you run yourself. I've been on servers where my house gets revenge griefed just because I am the victims neighbor, so it couldn't have been the 40 other people that were "just passing through".
- I think of complicated mods that I don't know how to use as puzzles for me to solve, and wish to learn the advanced uses they offer.
- You can set up personal restrictions to what you use or craft to challenge yourself.
- I like to play it when I need to 'cool off' after an aggravating game of League of Legends or CoD.
That is the appeal of Minecraft to me.
I love how the internet is its own fantasy adventure novel. Person A seeks guidance and the Trolls devour him.
I don't do a lot of single player anymore because I ran out of stuff to do (convert all my gunpowder to tnt, dig huge holes, etc) but I just go on PvP and mob arena servers now.
Here's how I see it: It truly is a fun game, and I enjoy it a lot. But the fact that it is worshipped by younger kids so much gets annoying. My bus is filled half with kindergarteners, half high-schoolers (wtf, eh) and I can't go 5 minutes without hearing the word "Minecraft."
